This continuing education course examines the history of the use of statin medications, as well as the role registered dietitians (RDs) play as part of the health care team in the management of patients with hyperlipidemia. It addresses food-drug interactions, medication side effects, and complementary therapies to help manage patients at risk of heart attack or stroke.

- Evaluate the benefits and side effects of statin medications.
- Determine drug/nutrient interactions that may occur with the use of statin medications.
